Location
Situated on a national nature reserve just minutes from trendy Cascais, romantic Sintra and historic Lisbon, Penha Longa is at once a rare blend of authentic European charm and modern accessibility. Penha Longa, meaning "Long Rock" is long on history and natural beauty. Friar Vasco Martins chose to build his monastery here in 1355, and the palace at Penha Longa became a favorite retreat for the Portuguese royal family in the 16th and 17th centuries. During this period many beautiful adornments, some of which remain to this day, were erected, including fountains, gardens, and water mills. Today, Penha Longa stands as a timeless link to five centuries of grand Portuguese estate luxury.

Hotel Overview

Walk in the footsteps of royalty along the gorgeous Estoril coastal region of Portugal. Penha Longa Hotel and Golf Resort traces its origins back to the 14th century, includes a landmark monastery that was built on its ground and has been a frequent retreat of Portuguese royal and foreign dignitaries. A graceful palazzo-style estate set amongst the spectacular rolling hills, lush gardens, and clear lakes of the southern Sintra mountains.

Six Senses Spa is located within Penha Longa┬┤s historic complex offering a haven of tranquility and inner peace. The 1,500 sqm Spa is the new body temple that offers a wide range of the most sophisticated therapies and treatments with a holistic approach to wellbeing.

The Spa includes nine treatment rooms including a suite reserved for those who prefer more privacy, two relaxing areas. Within the stunning gardens you may find a Jacuzzi, a contrast pool and a three meter waterfall, a platform over the pool for the practice of Yoga, Qi-Cong and two gazebos for meditation and treatments such as Shiatsu.

Ranked in the top 30 Courses in Continental Europe, The Atlantic Course designed by the famed Robert Trent Jones jr, is escapist golf at its best.

With its bold drives, courageous approaches and artful greens, it is both an adrenalin rush and a soothing journey through one of Portugal's most inspiring landscapes. The opening holes and the final flourish share a wooded vale in the shadow of the rocky mountains, while others arc and plunge over scented hillsides. Exciting at every turn, this championship test and host to the Portuguese Open, is a master of variety and thrills.

Its sister, the nine-hole Monastery course, is a perfect partner - equally pretty but a fraction less demanding.
