Hotel Overview
Every guest who steps through the doors of this magnificent historic mansion overlooking the Elbe is made to feel like one of the family: not so much a hotel, more a home from home. Certainly our rooms will make you feel at home immediately.
The decor is timeless, the French-inspired cuisine has won multiple awards and our Lime Tree Terrace is internationally renowned. Furthermore, our guests enjoy privileged access to our unique collections: fine wines from the four corners of the earth and works of art by local Hamburg artists.
The Louis C. Jacob stands on Germany's most famous road,
the Elbchaussee, on the way out to Blankenese. From its elevated situation beside the Elbchaussee it has looked out over the river Elbe for more than 200 years, and for more than 200 years it has been welcoming a steady stream of guests. It is one of the city's oldest-established hotels, French in origin but with a long Hanseatic tradition.
Founded in the time of the Revolution
The hotel takes its name from its founder, a Frenchman who had fled to Hamburg from France in turmoil at the time of the Revolution. Here Daniel Louis Jacques, a young landscape gardener by trade, met the feisty widow of a confectioner and fell in love. They married and he bought into her property. He took the German form of his surname - Jacob - laid out the Lime Tree Terrace and opened his restaurant.
Saved in its bicentenary year
200 years and five generations of the Jacob family later, the building was on the verge of total collapse. At this critical stage the property was acquired by the Rahe family, who lovingly restored and extended it to create the delightful Hotel Louis C. Jacob with the Jacobs Restaurant and other dining facilities, including the Lime Tree Terrace. And so a celebrated Hamburg landmark was rescued and ushered into the new millennium, resplendent in its new glory. |
