If the weather is turning frightful, take a cue from some of the hotels in Boston and Chicago and stop in for a warming drink at seasonal pop-up shops. Boston’s premier hotels, Revere and Mandarin Oriental, are offering visitors and locals alike a delicious escape from the cold right within their lobbies. From November 23-December 21, Revere will be featuring “Pop it Like it’s Hot,” a temporary hot chocolate-centric concept that will offer a variety of unique concoctions such as ginger white chocolate, maple bacon, and meringue brulee. The beverages, which will be created by Executive Chef Bader Ali and incorporate chocolate from Somerville’s Taza, will be free (though donations are suggested) and will benefit The Home for Little Wanderers.

Pop it Like it’s Hot will be open on Fridays from 3pm-6pm. The Mandarin Oriental has announced the opening of The Parlor, a new pop-up offering toasty beverages like Old Fashioned New England Hot Cider and Oralia’s Homemade Real Hot Chocolate, inventive tea sandwiches and holiday-themed pastries. Guests can also warm up with one of The Parlor’s signature hot toddies, including the Apple Toddy with calvados, cinnamon and clove honey and the Scotch Toddy with Johnny Walker Black and Domaine de Canton. The Parlor is located by the fireplace in the hotel’s lobby and will be open daily from 2-6pm through the holidays.

And in Chicago, guests of The James Hotel and passersby can warm their chilly hands at Cup o’ Jove, a temporary pop-up shop offering a wide variety of hot chocolate flavors with new surprises each week. The innovative recipes are concocted by Jove Hubbard, executive pastry chef at The James’ renowned restaurant David Burke's Primehouse. Some of Jove’s delectable creations include Hot Milk Chocolate with pumpkin, spiced marshmallows and Ceylon cinnamon caramel, and Mocha Hot Chocolate with Bailey’s whipped cream and chocolate-covered espresso beans. Located at the entrance of J Bar, the hotel’s bar and lounge, Cup o’ Jove will be open each Friday from 3pm – 5pm for five weeks. New flavors will be announced weekly via David Burke’s Primehouse Twitter and Facebook pages.
